QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team (8-1) took down BIG EAST rival Villanova (0-5), 7-0, at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., on Sunday. The Red Storm extended its winning streak to six matches and remain undefeated in conference play.
The No. 1 doubles team of Anna Morozova and Jessica Livianu got the day going with a convincing 6-0 win over Villanova's Kaylan Rotman and Lindsey Evans. Olaya Inclan Solis and Irina Preotescu clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies with a 6-1 victory in the No. 3 slot.
The No. 2 doubles team of Stephanie Elgegren and Jaide Collins also won 6-1. They have not lost since the Johnnies played NJIT on Jan. 27.
Livianu, the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week, earned the team's first singles point of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Rotman. St. John's took the rest of the singles points with relative ease, with the clincher coming in a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Olaya Inclan Solis over Villanova's Alexandra Krogius.
The Johnnies have now shut out three of their last five opponents during their current winning streak. They have now won four straight matches against Villanova dating back to the spring of 2014.
Head Coach Lauren Leo's squad will look to keep their streak alive against Farleigh Dickinson on March 2 at the National Tennis Center.
