Melendez Receives BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Nod

QUEENS, N.Y. -- After helping the Red Storm (10-8) pickup three wins at the Buccaneer Classic with a big weekend at the plate, sophomore Christina Melendez earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league offices on Monday afternoon.
The Fullerton, Calif., product was a hard out all weekend as the right fielder recorded a hit in all four games in Tennessee and posted a .462 (6-for-13) batting average with an impressive .769 slugging percentage.
Melendez also led the Red Storm attack with four runs and a team-high four RBIs, highlighted by a pair of multi-hit performances. In a 3-0 win over Morehead State in the Buccaneer Classic opener, Melendez got the offense going with a two-run shot off the scoreboard in right center for her second home run of the season.
St. John's aims for its sixth win in seven games when the Johnnies take on Wagner (0-5) on Wednesday for its home opener. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. at Red Storm Field and the game will be aired live on RedStormSports.com with Mike Watts and Nkwa Asonye on the call.
