St. John's Falls, 6-1, in Season Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Opening up the 2018 spring season, the St. John's women's tennis team fell, 6-1, to Harvard on Friday evening at the Murr Center.
The Red Storm (0-1) was led by the doubles pairings of Jaide Collins / Zofia Stanisz and Olaya Inclan Solis / Irina Preotescu as both pairings captured victories to earn the doubles point.
Playing in the No. 1 doubles position, Collins and Stanisz defeated Annika Ringblom and Anna Li in a back-and-forth, 7-5, match.
Solis and Preotescu needed a tiebreaker in their victory, closing out a 7-6 (1-0) win over Isabel Jaspar and Jenna Moustafa from the No. 3 spot.
Harvard (2-2) picked up six sweeps in singles play, to pick up its second win of the season.
St. John's will open the home portion of its schedule on Sunday when the Johnnies host Fairfield at the National Tennis Center at 8:30 p.m.
