Kajan’s pair of goals earn her conference honors
After leading the Red Storm to a 2-0 shutout against Seton Hall on Saturday evening, Zsani Kajan has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Meredith Reinhardt earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference this afternoon.Â
Â
Kajan, a redshirt sophomore from Budapest, Hungary, has now earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week twice over the 2018 campaign. The forward posted her second straight two-goal game and third multi-scoring match of the season against Seton Hall on Saturday night. With a pair of tallies in the contest, Kajan has now recorded a total 11 goals on the year and is just one of seven players in program history to record double-digit goals in a single season.
Â
Kajan opened up scoring against the Pirates on Saturday evening just 24 seconds out of halftime, before capping off a spectacular match with an insurance goal in the 64th minute to lift the Johnnies to a 2-0 victory. The win moved St. John's into a tie for third place in the BIG EAST standings.
Â
With 11 goals and 24 points on the season, Kajan ranks second overall in the conference in both statistical categories.
Â
In 90 minutes of action for the Red Storm, Reinhardt posted a 1-0-0 record last week. The Arizona transfer has now earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in three-consecutive weeks. The redshirt sophomore picked up her sixth win of the season and third clean sheet in the Johnnies 2-0 shutout over Seton Hall. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native made a pair saves on the night to improve her save percentage to .765, good enough for sixth overall in the BIG EAST.
Â
Kajan, Reinhardt and the rest of the St. John's women's soccer team return to action Thursday evening, welcoming Villanova to Belson Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
