Bellero Named Offensive Player of the Week, Reinhardt Earns Honor Roll Spot

Bellero’s trio of goals earn her conference honors
After leading the St. John's women's soccer team to a 2-0 week and helping them clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Tournament, Christina Bellero has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Meredith Reinhardt earned a spot on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference this afternoon.

Bellero was recognized as Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season after pacing the Red Storm with a trio of goals and an assist for a total seven points in just two matches. The Mellville, N.Y., native scored a pair of tallies in Thursday night's comeback victory over Villanova, for the second multi-goal match of her career. On Sunday afternoon, the senior registered the game-winning mark to lift the Johnnies to a 1-0 triumph over Xavier.

Trailing Villanova, 2-0, midway through the second half on Thursday night, Bellero got the Red Storm on the board in the 61st minute. Eighteen minutes later, she assisted on Lucy Whipp's game-tying goal, before recording the golden goal in the 99th minute for the win. On Sunday at Xavier, Bellero scored the game winner in the 41st minute, as St. John's guaranteed itself a home match in the conference tournament. Over two games, Bellero doubled her goals total on the season to six and now ranks inside the top-10 overall in the conference.

Reinhardt has now earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll in thee-straight weeks and four times this season. The Arizona transfer had another stellar performance last week, posting a 2-0 record between the pipes for the Red Storm. The redshirt sophomore recorded 12 saves, a .857 save percentage and a 0.96 goals against average. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native picked up her fourth clean sheet of the 2018 campaign against Xavier on Sunday afternoon, registering a career-high nine saves.

Bellero, Reinhardt and the rest of the St. John's women's soccer team return to action Thursday evening, for the final match of the 2018 regular season, as the Johnnies welcome DePaul to Belson Stadium. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
