St. John’s Falls to #10 Creighton in Straight Sets

Amanda Sanabia’s 15 digs moves her to 8th All-time in career digs

The Red Storm volleyball team fell in straight sets on Sunday afternoon on the road against #10 Creighton. The loss moves the Red Storm to 15-7 overall, 4-3 in BIG EAST play.
Junior libero Amanda Sanabia passed Karin Palgutova to move in to eighth all-time for most career digs with her 15 dig performance.
Rachele Rastelli led the Red Strom with 11 kills and .375 hitting percentage. Erica Di Maulo finished with a double-double, accumulating 23 assists and 11 digs.
The Red Storm traded points with the Blue Jays early in the first set. After being all square at five points apiece, Creighton would make things difficult for the Johnnies, increasing their lead to 19-10. The Blue Jays claimed the first set, 25-15, despite St. John's committing only two errors and .455 hitting percentage for the set.
St. John's continued to fight in the second set. After being down 19-14, the Johnnies would utilize a 5-0 scoring run to tie the match at 19. Unfortunately for the Red Storm, they would drop the second set in heartbreaking fashion, 26-24, after holding a narrow, 24-23 lead.
The Johnnies and the Blue Jays were all square at 15 points in the third set. The Blue Jays would capitalize on three straight kills to take an 18-15 lead. That was the closest St. John's would come to making a comeback in the match, losing the final set, 25-19.
Coach Persico's squad returns to action this Friday night, as the Red Storm host Marquette in Taffner Field House at 7 PM.
