Both seniors earned a spot on the 2018 Scholar All-EAST Region Second Team
Following a season that saw both Claudia Cagnina and Christina Bellero earn a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, both St. John's women's soccer players received a nod to the United Soccer Coaches Division I Women's Scholar All-East Region Second Team on Monday.
These two student-athletes played influential roles in St. John's 2018 season, as the team earned a berth to the BIG EAST Tournament for the 15th time in program history.
Â
Bellero played an integral part in the Johnnies' attack this past season to land a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second-straight year. The senior from Mellville, N.Y., capped off the 2018 campaign with a total of six goals, good enough for second best on the team. In addition, the local product dished out four assists for a combined 16 points, just one shy of her career-high 17.
Â
Bellero closed out her Red Storm career with a combined 20 goals and 51 points to rank inside the top-10 for the St. John's women's soccer program in both statistical categories.
Â
A highly-touted talent out of Lindenhust, N.Y., Cagnina played substantial minutes for the Red Storm, starting in all 19 matches over the course of the 2018 season. Cagnina's pinnacle moment of the year came on Sept. 2 against Stony Brook, as the senior dished out a career-high three assists, just one off the program record set by Jennifer Contesini in 1995, and again by Marissa Stork in 1999.
Â
Cagnina and Bellero have put forth a stellar effort both on and off the pitch for the Red Storm, as the seniors sport GPAs of 3.64 and 3.63, respectively.
