QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team used three-straight singles victories to defeat Buffalo, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the National Tennis Center.
The Red Storm (4-2) remains a perfect 4-0 at the National Tennis Center this season, and has now defeated three-consecutive programs from the Empire State.
Buffalo (1-1) grabbed the doubles point, by claiming back-to-back matches from the No. 2 and 3 positions.
St. John's responded in singles play, however, as Jessica Livianu cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win from the No. 1 spot to even the match at 1-1.
After the Bulls answered with a win at No. 2, the Johnnies rattled off three-consecutive victories to complete the comeback over the MAC favorites.
Jaide Collins started the rally for the Red Storm in the No. 4 position. The senior won a back-and-forth first set, 7-5, before rolling to a 6-2 victory in the second to bring the match back to even at 2-2.
Moments later, Irina Preotescu made quick work of her opponent from the No. 6 hole, winning 6-1, 6-2 to push the Johnnies in front, 3-2, for the first time in the match.
Following a dominating, 6-1, victory at the No. 5 position, Kajsa Stegrell put the finishing touches on the victory for the Red Storm by gutting out a 7-6 (4) triumph in the second set to cement the dual-match win for the home side.
St. John's will look to bring its home mojo on the road as the Johnnies embark on a four-match road swing. The road trip begins on Feb. 16 in the Bronx with the Red Storm battling Fordham at 7 p.m.
