England becomes the second Johnnie in program history to earn a spot on the preseason list
St. John's redshirt junior Tiana England was named to the 2020 Nancy Lieberman Award Preseason Watch List, which recognizes the top point guard in college basketball.
This marks England's second early season honor, as the redshirt junior was unanimously selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team.
England is one of 20 players nationwide to be put on the preseason watch list for the award presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Last season, the Stamford, Conn., native led the conference in assists with 5.7 per game. England reached the 10-dime mark on three different occasions last year and ranked inside the top-20 nationally in assists per game at the conclusion of the season.
After dishing out 176 assists during the 2018-19 campaign, England cracked the top-15 on the St. John's all-time assist list with 347 despite having played just two seasons in Queens. England is just six assists away from entering the top-10.
In addition to her facilitating abilities, the redshirt junior paced the team in scoring during conference play with 12.0 points per game. England reached double figures in 16 contests and eclipsed the 20-point mark twice.
England becomes the second St. John's point guard in program history to be selected to the prestigious preseason list, joining former Red Storm standout and 2013 WNBA draft pick Nadirah McKenith. The former Johnnie found herself on the watch list all four years at St. John's and was a top-eight finalist in 2009-10.
By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2020 Lieberman Award will be narrowed down to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2020 Lieberman Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif., on Friday, April 10, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five.
England is one of two BIG EAST players to find their name on the preseason watch list alongside DePaul's Kelly Campbell.
Starting Friday, fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at http://www.hoophallawards.com/women/vote.php.
England and the Red Storm will kick off the season on Nov. 5, traveling to St. Bonaventure for a 5 p.m. tilt with the Bonnies.
