Madison Morris Tabbed to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Morris tossed a near-perfect game and fanned a combined 17 at the Gamecock Invitational
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2018) – After tossing a near-perfect game and fanning a combined 17 batters at the Gamecock Invitational, senior Madison Morris has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference on Monday.
In St. John's opening game against UNC Greensboro, the right-handed hurler retired 15 straight batters, carrying a perfect game into the sixth frame. The Hampton, Va., native recorded six strikeouts in her two-hit, complete game shutout, 6-0, over the Spartans.
Following her near-perfect performance, Morris continued her dominance against the Campbell Fighting Camels Saturday evening. She registered seven swinging strikeouts through the first nine batters she faced. The 5-foot-9 pitcher fanned four more hitters, finishing with 11 punchouts in St. John's 4-3 victory over Campbell.
Morris picks up the fifth conference accolade of her career. Her last recognition came in March 2018 when the senior posted a 1-0 record in three appearances at the Colorado State Classic. She allowed six runs and struck out 23 batters in 14.0 innings of work.
Through the first nine games of the season, the Hampton, Va., native has registered a 3-2 record in six appearances and has fanned 34 hitters in as many innings.
The Red Storm takes a weekend off and hosts its Winter Clinic on Feb. 24 before traveling to Florida for the Madeira Beach Invitational the following weekend. The two-day invite starts on March 1 when St. John's faces off against Boston College and Central Michigan.
