The Red Storm carded a low-round 292 on the day
The St. John's women's golf team turned in a final-round 292, to finish fourth overall at the BIG EAST Championship.
"We had hoped for a different outcome this week, but I am really proud of my team for their efforts today," Head Coach Ambry Bishop said. "I felt the preparation for this week's BIG EAST Championship had been very productive. Rounds one and two didn't go our way, so it was nice to see everyone bounce back and watch their hard work pay off for the lowest round of the tournament this week."
The Red Storm moved up one spot in the standings with the best shooting performance of the tournament. Freshman Jessie Kweon shot a one-under 71 for the top individual round of the day. Kweon's final performance was highlighted by a trio of birdies.
Junior Kaitleen Shee finished strong, signing at level-par 72 while classmate Linda Wang recorded a final round one-over 73 to close out play in a tie for 13th place.
Alejandra Sanchez fired three birdies on the day to finish at 76 and tie Wang for 13th place.
"I was also proud of Alejandra for her two-under finish with four holes left to play," Bishop said. "As a senior I know she wanted to end on a high note, so it was great to see her finish."
Sophomore Andrea Sanchez shot an 82 to finish in 22nd place.
Xavier registered a team score of 298 in the second and third rounds after a 306 in the first round to claim its first BIG EAST Championship team title. The Musketeers' Mikayla Fitzpatrick shot an even-par 216 to claim medalist honors.
