Bautista returns home to Queens following four seasons at George Washington
St. John's Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella has announced the hiring of Mei-Lyn Bautista, who was named the program's graduate assistant on Thursday.
Bautista, a product of Saint Mary's High School in Manhasset, joins the Red Storm after playing for four seasons at George Washington University, where she helped lead the Colonials to a 75-51 record during her time with the program. Bautista anchored GW to three postseason appearances during her tenure, including a pair of NCAA Tournament berths following Atlantic 10 titles in 2016 and 2018. The Colonials reached the 20-win plateau twice during her playing career.
Bautista joins the Johnnies on the heels of a successful senior season, earning a spot on the All-Atlantic 10 Third Team and The Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team. She averaged 9.3 points, 3.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game for the Colonials.
Along with her strong on-court presence, Bautista also proved excellent in the classroom at GW, as she was named a 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholar Athlete. Bautista, who graduated with a degree in marketing, also served as a member of SAAC Leadership Academy and found a spot on the GW Athletics Academic Dean's List following her freshman season.
Bautista will continue to strengthen her leadership skills as she pursues a masters in Sport Management.
