Svoboda picked up the honor in three-hole aggregate playoff
After earning medalist honors at the Long Island Open Championship last year, former St. John's standout Andrew Svoboda reclaimed his title on Thursday at the Engineers Country Club.
Â
Svoboda's victory came following a three-hole playoff with Nick Beddow of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The winner of a school-record 13 individual titles sank a 72-foot eagle putt on the first of the three-hole playoff to take a commanding lead and secure his second consecutive Long Island title.
Â
The New Rochelle native kicked off the first round of action with an eagle on the first hole. After recording a pair of bogeys over the next four holes, Svoboda bounced back draining four birdies to post a score of four-under 67.
Â
Svoboda signed off on a one-under 70 and a two-under 69 over the next two rounds to tie with Beddow at seven-under par following 54 holes of play. The former Johnnie went on to win the three-hole aggregate playoff by three shots.
Â
With the first place finish, Svoboda is two titles away from defending his 2018 sweep of the Long Island, New York State and Met Opens.
