Athletic department inducts eight as part of 21st class in its history
QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2020) – The St. John's Athletics Department inducted the 21st class in the history of its hall of fame this weekend, recognizing eight individuals for outstanding contributions to the legacy of Red Storm athletics.
The department honored Jackie Ahlers (Volleyball), Keegan Bradley (Men's Golf), Yury Gelman (Fencing), Roman Linshceid (Track & Field), Felipe Lopez (Men's Basketball), Joe Russo (Baseball), Da'Shena Stevens (Women's Basketball) and Chris Wingert (Men's Soccer).

The festivities began on Saturday afternoon at "The World's Most Famous Arena," as the inductees were recognized at halftime of the Red Storm men's basketball game against Seton Hall.
Later that evening, the legendary Johnnies were the guests of honor at the formal induction ceremony held inside the D'Angelo Center on the University's Queens campus. Following an invocation from Father Richard Rock, Campus Minister for Athletics, and introductory remarks from Athletics Director Mike Cragg, the evening's program got underway. Each inductee was introduced by a presenter of their choosing before giving a speech of their own. The honorees' words inspired laughs and pulled on heart strings, as each relayed the importance that St. John's has played in their athletic and professional successes. Russo, who passed away in May, was represented by his wife Cecelia.
On Sunday afternoon, the weekend's festivities culminated with a brunch and additional recognition at the women's basketball team's victory against Creighton.
To nominate individuals for future consideration into the Hall, please contact Andrew O'Connell, Senior Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, at oconnela@stjohns.edu.
