Red Storm Participates in Virtual BIG EAST Media Day

Head Coach Joe Tartamella addressed local and national media
St. John's women's basketball head coach Joe Tartamella participated in the 2020 BIG EAST Media Day on Thursday.
The event, which usually takes place at Madison Square Garden, was held virtually for the first time in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Media Day coincided with the release of the conference's coaches' poll and preseason all-league teams. St. John's guards Qadashah Hoppie and Leilani Correa were both recognized as members of the All-BIG EAST Team, while the Johnnies were picked to finish fourth in the 11-team league.
Following the release of the conference's Preseason All-BIG EAST Teams, Commissioner Val Ackerman kicked off the virtual event with opening remarks. After Ackerman's introduction, Tartamella and the rest of the conference's head coaches addressed the media in separate zoom sessions.
UConn, who returned to the conference this summer following a seven-year stint in the American Athletic Conference, was selected as the unanimous favorite to win the league in the preseason coaches' poll. Six-time and reigning BIG EAST regular season champion DePaul finished second, while Marquette was slotted third. After the Red Storm in the fourth spot, Creighton, Seton Hall, Villanova, Butler, Xavier, Providence and Georgetown, respectively, rounded out the league.
