Paradis, Mesaros and Madden all find the back of the net in intrasquad scrimmage
The St. John's women's soccer team hosted an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday night, that saw freshman Nicole Gordon notch the game-winning goal in the 75th minute, lifting the Red side to a 3-2 victory.
Gordon's game-winner was her second goal of the evening as she also found the back of the net in the opening half off a pass from Angelina Scoma.
The Red side jumped out to an early advantage in the 13th minute, when Isabelle Aviza sent a pass in to Grace Paradis, who buried it home, giving the Red side a 1-0 advantage.
The White side recorded the equalizer in the 18th minute off a goal from Kayla Mesaros. The sequence began off a corner kick, as Alex Madden sent a right-footed ball to the center of the box, where Mesaros converted on the header to tie the game. Seven minute later, the white side took over the lead as Maia Cabrera played a magnificent through ball into the box for Madden, who finished in the center of the cage, giving the White side a 2-1 lead.
The Red side retaliated in 33rd minute as Scoma sent a pass inside the box to rookie Gordon who tapped it past the keeper, to knot the score at, 2-2, at the intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Red side controlled the offense, firing off nine shots before Gordon launched a missile to the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
After the fall campaign was canceled due to COVID-19, St. John's is scheduled to begin its season in the spring of 2021.
