The Red Storm ends its four-match losing skid; improves to 7-7 on the year
GREENVILLE, R.I. (March 7, 2020) – After losing a nail biter on the road against College of Charleston on Tuesday, the St. John's women's tennis team terminated its four-match losing skid with a 4-0 sweep over Bryant on Saturday at Rally Point Racquet Club.
In the No. 1 bout, Jessica Livianu and Gabriela Tenorio picked up St. John's first doubles victory against the Bulldogs, defeating Ada Boru and Sarah Hickey, 6-3. Aleski Gottlieb and Leanna Kendall leveled the session with a 6-3 triumph over Milka Genkova and Kajsa Stegrell on the No. 3 court. Najah Dawson and Oceane Garibal clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies as they outdueled Bryant's No. 2 duo Amber Paterson and Megan Tan, 7-6.
The Red Storm captured the first three singles matches in straight sets to sprint to a 4-0 sweep over the Bulldogs.
No. 55 Livianu secured St. John's first singles victory in the No. 1 tilt with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Sarah Hickey.
Willa Bay Breunich earned her second singles win of the season in the No. 6 bout, bouncing Aleski Gottlieb, 6-0, 6-1.
Garibal sealed the victory for the Johnnies as she defeated Bryant's Ada Boru in the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-2.
Genkova, Dawson, and Camila Ordonez went unfinished in their matches in the No. 3, 4, and 5 contests.
The Johnnies will venture to Cincinnati for their second BIG EAST bout of the season at Xavier on Saturday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m.
