The award honors up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport younger than 30 years old
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 4, 2020) – St. John's volleyball assistant coach Bryan Weber was named to the 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under Thirty list on Monday.
The association recognized Weber as one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the country.
"Winning this award is really a testament to the hard work our staff and student-athletes put in every day," said Weber. "I'm extremely proud to be able to represent our university and being recognized by the AVCA is an amazing accomplishment. Being able to work with and learn from Coach Persico over the past six seasons has truly been the chance of a lifetime and I look forward to contributing to the continued success of this program."
In 2019, Weber helped head coach Joanne Persico lead the Johnnies to a 22-12 overall record while picking up two wins against then-No. 10 Creighton and then-No.12 Marquette to capture the BIG EAST Tournament Championship.
The Red Storm also racked up four wins against AVCA Top-100 teams and earned an automatic bid to the program's third-ever NCAA Tournament Appearance.
In 2018, Weber and the volleyball coaching staff were named the 2018 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Johnnies to a 23-12 record, the most wins by the program since 2007.
Since coming to Queens in 2014, Weber has coached one AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, three AVCA All-East Coast Region selections, four AVCA All-East Coast Honorable Mentions and 12 All-BIG EAST selections.
