Red Storm women’s soccer team recognized for achievement in the classroom
The St. John's women's soccer program continued its tradition of academic excellence in 2019-20, as the squad has been honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, it was announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.
In order to be eligible for the award, a squad must carry a composite GPA above 3.0 for the entire academic year. The women's team turned in an outstanding 3.83 GPA in 2019-20, good enough for fourth in all of Division I.
"Finishing in the top four of Division I women's soccer teams nationally, based on team cumulative GPA, is again a remarkable accomplishment," Head Coach Ian Stone said. "I have to give a great deal of credit to our amazing student-athletes for successfully navigating their way academically through very different times."
This marks the 16th occasion on which the squad has garnered the accolade, and the fourth-consecutive year.
