Kweon finishes in a tie for second place
The St. John's women's golf team placed second overall at the Quinnipiac Classic on Tuesday, shooting a combined score of 937 (+73) at the two-day 54-hole event.
"I am happy to see the team finish at the top," said head coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo. "We had a nice bounce back yesterday afternoon in round two. Today's course setup was very challenging and the team stayed patient with some very tough greens and hole locations. It was a great test for us heading into our last two events."
Host school Quinnipiac claimed the team title with a three-round score of 918 (+54). Elyse Kim of Quinnipiac earned medalist honors, carding a 7-over 223 to sit six-shots clear of teammate Aimee Uchida and St. John's senior Jessie Kweon, who finished in a tie for second.
Kweon carded a 77-72-80 to lead the way for the Red Storm squad. The Little Neck, N.Y., native drained four birdies over three rounds of play.
Junior Laia Barro finished seven-strokes back of Kweon, shooting a 79-73-84 to place inside the top-15. The Philippines native fired off five birdies at the event to tie teammate Angelica Kusnowo for a team most.
Junior Cloe Clocchiatti, graduate student Andrea Sanchez and redshirt freshman Amy Kim, who was competing as an individual, all turned in a three-round 239 (+23) to finish in a tie for 19th place.
Sophomore Angelica Kusnowo rounded out scoring for the Red Storm lineup, shooting an 84-82-78-244 to finish inside the top half of the standings.
The Red Storm will return to action on Oct. 16-17, as the squad travels to Rehoboth Beach, Del., for the Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
