St. John’s to Continue Road Swing at Marquette and DePaul

The Red Storm will play the latter half of its two-week road-swing
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2021) – The St. John's volleyball team will continue its four-game road-swing this weekend in the Midwest.
The Johnnies return to action against Marquette on Friday at 8 p.m. before facing DePaul the following day at 7 p.m. Both matches will be live streamed and can be found on FloSports. Live Stats will also be available and can be found on GoMarquette.com and DePaulBlueDemons.com.
The Red Storm is currently 3-3 in conference play after falling to Butler in three sets last Friday and defeating Xavier in four sets the following day. The Johnnies' loss to Butler came with set scores of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-23. The match against Xavier was more tightly contested with two sets going over 25 points. St. John's took the first two sets, 26-24, and 25- 14, respectively. The Musketeers captured the third set, 25-20, before the Johnnies came back to win, 28-26.
Rachele Rastelli was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after recording 21 kills in the match against Xavier. The senior averaged 4.86 kills per set over the weekend, good enough for second in the league. On the season, the senior from Parma, Italy, is now averaging 4.30 kills per set and hitting at a .256 clip. She has recorded double-digit kills in 17 of 20 matches this season.
On the national leaderboard, St. John's players continue to occupy top spots in multiple statistical categories. Rastelli is currently fourth in the nation in total points with 368 and fifth in total kills with 314. She is also no. 19 with 5.04 points per set and no. 24 with 4.30 kills per set and no. 33 with 735 total attacks. Tiziana Baumrukova is tied for 21st with 670 total assists while Ariadni Kathariou is tied for 28th with 79 total blocks.
After boasting a 10-4 record during the spring season, Marquette, who is receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 poll, was chosen to finish second in the Coaches' Preseason Poll. This fall, the Golden Eagles boast a 14-3 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST action to sit second overall in the league. Last weekend, Marquette defeated Providence in a three-set sweep before falling to then-No.19 Creighton in four sets. The Golden Eagles return Preseason All-BIG EAST picks Savannah Rennie and Taylor Wolf. Wolf, the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, leads Marquette with 2.98 kills per set and 173 kills on the season while Rennie has tallied 2.71 kills per set and 157 kills.
St. John's defeated then-No. 12 Marquette in three sets to win the BIG EAST Tournament title in 2019, but trails in the overall series, 19-6.
DePaul was tied for sixth in the preseason poll after completing last spring with a 3-5 record in conference play. The Blue Demons will play Seton Hall on Friday before welcoming St. John's on Saturday. DePaul is currently 10-8 overall and 3-3 in league action. Last weekend, the Blue Demons lost in three sets to then-No.19 Creighton before sweeping Providence in three sets. DePaul returns Jill Pressly who was named to the All- BIG EAST Freshman Team last spring and currently leads the team with 3.60 kills per set.
