St. John’s to Welcome Xavier and Butler

The weekend at home is in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2021) – After four games on the road, the St. John's volleyball team is set to play Xavier and Butler at home in conjunction with St. John's Athletics Homecoming Weekend.
The Johnnies return to action against Xavier on Saturday at 3 p.m. before facing Butler the following day at 2 p.m. Both matches this weekend will be live streamed and can be found on ESPN3. Live stats will also be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm is currently 3-5 in conference play after falling to both Marquette and DePaul last weekend. Marquette, who was receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches' Poll, won the match in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-23, and 25-22. The loss against the Blue Demons was a tightly contested back and forth five-set battle. DePaul took the first set, 25-21, before St. John's captured the second set, 25-12. The Blue Demons won the third set, 25-19, while the Red Storm grabbed the fourth set, 25-18. The fifth set went to DePaul, 15-12.
Rachele Rastelli was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after recording 27 kills on a .460 hitting percentage in the match against DePaul. She also moved into seventh place on the program's careers kill list after passing Kristine Knobel (1995-1999). The senior currently has 1,292 career kills.
On the national leaderboard, St. John's players continue to sit in top spots in multiple statistical categories. Rastelli is currently second in the nation in total points with 415.5 and fifth in total kills with 352. She is also no. 18 with 5.13 points per set, no. 25 with 4.35 kills per set and tied for no. 27 with 819 total attacks. Tiziana Baumrukova is 34th with 719 total assists while Ariadni Kathariou is tied for 27th with 87 total blocks.
Xavier was selected to finish fourth in the Coaches' Preseason Poll after completing last spring with a 3-3 record in conference play. Currently, the Musketeers are sitting in fifth place with a 5-3 record in BIG EAST play and a 10-9 overall record. Xavier defeated Georgetown in four sets last Friday before falling to Villanova in four sets the following day. The Musketeers return Preseason All-BIG EAST Pick Carrigan O'Reilly. O'Reilly currently leads Xavier with 664 total assists and 9.10 assists per set.
Earlier this season, on Oct. 9, St. John's topped Xavier in four sets. Xavier remains on top in the overall series, edging St. John's 10-6.
Butler was chosen to finish ninth in the preseason poll after completing last spring with a 1-7 record in conference play. The Bulldogs are currently in seventh place with a 10-11 overall record and a 4-4 record in league action. Butler lost in five sets to Villanova last Friday before sweeping Georgetown the following day. The Bulldogs will play Seton Hall on Saturday before coming to Queens on Sunday. Butler returns Preseason All-BIG EAST pick Melody Davidson. Davidson currently leads her team offensively with 3.64 kills per set and defensively with 72 total blocks across 76 sets.
On Oct. 8, Butler moved to 10-5 in the overall series after defeating the Red Storm in three sets.
