Serra High School product signs on to play with the Red Storm
The St. John's women's basketball program received its first official commitment from the Class of 2022 on Wednesday with the signing of Jailah Donald to a National Letter of Intent.
"Jailah is an elite playmaker and was the starting point guard for one of the best AAU programs in the country [Cal Sparks]," said Head Coach Joe Tartamella. "That experience and her lock-down defensive mindset will help us immediately. We expect Jailah to step right in and make a major impact not only on our team, but in the BIG EAST."
Donald comes to Queens following a stellar high school career at Serra. As a junior, Donald received a slew of accolades including Del Rey League MVP. The Gardena, Calif., native was also an All-CIF selection and earned a spot on the SB Live Sports Third Team. That year, Donald stuffed the stat sheet, averaging 24.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game to help lead her team to an 11-3 record, including a 7-1 mark in league action.
The year prior to, Donald poured in 11.9 points and grabbed 8.4 rebounds per game. As a freshman, Donald burst onto the scene for her team, averaging 12.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest en route to Daily Breeze All-Area First Team and All-Del Re League First Team honors.
The Red Storm will kick off the 2021-22 season tonight, as it welcomes Fairleigh Dickinson to Carnesecca Arena for a 7 p.m. matchup.
