Freshman Angelica Kusnowo places second with a three-round 215 (-1)
The St. John's women's golf team collected its third-straight team title on Tuesday afternoon at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
The Johnnies recorded the best round of the day, turning in a 296 (+8) over the final 18 holes to jump two spots on the leaderboard. The Red Storm shot a combined 300-301-296=897 to finish one stroke ahead of second-place Rutgers.
"I am so proud of this team and their fight out on the course today," said Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo. "It was really a team effort and we couldn't be more excited to finish at the top."
Freshman Angelica Kusnowo led the way for St. John's, finishing second overall in the standings. The Chino Hills, Calif., native played a spectacular final round, firing off five birdies over 18 holes to sign off on a season-low three-under 69. The Red Storm rookie wrapped up the week with a score of one-under 215 (73-73-69), to finish two strokes back of first place.
"I am thrilled for Angie and her second place finish," said Bishop-Santillo. "She played great both days. She had an opportunity to break par yesterday, so I couldn't be happier for her."
Senior Linda Wang carded a final round 73 (+1) to jump five spots in the standings and finish in a tie for seventh. The Fresh Meadows, N.Y., native turned in a three-round score of 76-76-73=225.
Sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti (77-76-77=230) and junior Jessie Kweon (74-76-81=231) both finished inside the top-20. Senior Andrea Sanchez (82-79-77=238) rounded out the lineup for the Red Storm, closing out play in a three-way tie for 35th place.
Sophomores Jill Beglin and Laia Barro, who were competing as individuals, recorded scores of 86-79-73=238 and 86-86-88=260 at the two-day 54-hole event.
