St. John’s Women’s Golf Wraps Up Round One of BIG EAST Championship

Linda Wang leads the way for Red Storm after 18 holes
Through 18 holes of the BIG EAST Championship, Linda Wang fired a 3-over 75 to lead St. John's on Friday at the Club at Gateway in Fort Myers, Fla.
Wang sits in a tie for fifth at the conclusion of day one. The graduate student's first-round effort was highlighted by a trio of birdies.
Senior Andrea Sanchez and sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti sit four strokes back of Wang, each shooting a 7-over 79 to tie for 19th overall in the standings. Clocchiatti, a product of Padua, Italy, fired of a pair of birdies on the par-4 10th and par-5 13th holes.
Junior Jessie Kweon and freshman Angelica Kusnowo rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, signing off on an 80 (+8) and 81 (+9), respectively.
St. John's will look to improve with 36 holes of play remaining. The Johnnies recorded a team score of 313 (+25) on Friday to sit ahead of Butler and Georgetown in the standings.
Creighton turned in a 295 (+7) to hold a five-stroke lead over second place Xavier. Seton Hall sits third on the leaderboard with a score of 301 (+13) after 18 holes of play.
Individually, Creighton's Katie Allen sits in first, shooting a one-under 71.
The Red Storm returns to the course tomorrow morning, as the golfers tee off at 8 a.m. for round two of the BIG EAST Championship.
