Jessie Kweon leads the Red Storm and ties for 11th place
The St. John's women's golf team shot 12-over 300 in Sunday's final round at The Club at Gateway in Fort Myers, Fla., to place fourth overall at the BIG EAST Championship.
"Although this year has been a challenge competing during a pandemic, I have never been so proud of a team and our accomplishments," said Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo. "It hasn't always been just about golf this year and these girls have had nothing but great attitudes and drive during it all. We managed to stay 100% COVID-19 free as a team and that might be our biggest win of the season."
The Johnnies' best round of the day came from junior Jessie Kweon, who fired a 1-over 73 to climb four spots on the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 11th place at 228 (+12). The Little Neck, N.Y., natives final round effort was highlighted by a pair of birdies over the last four holes.
Sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti signed off on her best round of the conference tournament, shooting a 2-over 74. The Padua, Italy, native wrapped up play in a tie for 15th place with a three-round score of 233 (+17).
Freshman Angelica Kusnowo and senior Andrea Sanchez carded final round scores of 4-over 76 and 5-over 77, to place 17th and 18th on the leaderboard.
Graduate student Linda Wang rounded out scoring for the Red Storm, shooting 81 (+9) in the final round to finish in a tie for 22nd place.
St. John's shot a three-round 924 (+60) to finish ahead of both Butler and Georgetown in the standings. Xavier earned its second-straight team title with a score of 891 (+27) to sit 13-strokes clear of second-place Seton Hall. Creighton rounded out the top three, shooting a 913 (+49).
"We went into this week feeling good, but unfortunately it wasn't our time," said Coach Bishop-Santillo. "The team continued to fight to the finish and have a nice round today. With six out of seven returners, we have so much to build on and feel good about heading into next season."
Xavier's Morgan Tinsley claimed medalist honors, carding a three-round 221 (+5).
