Seven Johnnies Named WGCA All-American Scholars

All seven Red Storm golfers recognized by WGCA
All seven St. John's women's golfers who participated in the 2020-21 spring campaign were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Linda Wang, Andrea Sanchez, Jessie Kweon, Laia Barro, Jill Beglin, Cloe Clocchiatti and Angelica Kusnowo were all honored for their academic achievements.Â

A total of 1,432 women's collegiate golfers were recognized for having a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics.

Wang, a five-year standout on the Red Storm squad earned a spot on the All-American Scholar Team for the second time in her career. The Fresh Meadows, N.Y., native boasted a 77.50 stroke average across all seven tournaments.

For the third-consecutive year, Sanchez earned the honor after shooting a 79.0 stroke average through seven events.

Kweon, Barro, Beglin and Clocchiatti all found a spot on the All-American Scholar Team for the second-straight season. Kweon posted a 77.45 stroke average over her junior year to sit second overall on the team.

Kusnowo, a rising sophomore from Chino Hills, Calif., received the prestigious honor following a standout rookie season that saw her earn a spot on the All-BIG EAST Team. Kusnowo led the way for the Red Storm over the 2020-21 campaign, recording a 75.82 stroke average, good enough for third in the BIG EAST.

As a team, the Johnnies closed out the 2020-21 campaign with a conference-high three team titles.
