St. John’s and Rutgers Play to 2-2 Draw in Exhibition Opener

Brandon Knapp tallies a goal and an assist in 2021 preseason debut
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The St. John's men's soccer team kicked off the preseason with a 2-2 draw against Rutgers on Friday night at Yurcak Field.
Senior midfielder Brandon Knapp anchored the Red Storm offense against its former BIG EAST foe, scoring a goal and registering an assist during the Johnnies' first August action since 2019.
Knapp struck first for the Red Storm on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute before assisting on the second goal of the evening, a strike off the foot of sophomore Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau in the 42nd minute.
Knapp has earned All-BIG EAST recognition in each of the past two seasons, garnering a pair of nods to the All-BIG EAST Third Team as a sophomore and junior.
Rutgers knotted the contest with markers in the 75th and 85th minutes.
The Red Storm will play two more exhibition matches before the start of the 2021 regular season, hosting Long Island University on Monday evening at Belson Stadium before closing out the exhibition portion of its schedule on Aug. 20 against Temple in Philadelphia.
The 2021 fall campaign will kick off in earnest on Aug. 26 when the Red Storm travels to Clemson, S.C., for a match against the sixth-ranked Tigers.
