St. John’s Falls to Creighton

Red Storm caps the weekend on Sunday at Xavier
OMAHA, Neb. (NOV. 11, 2022) – The St. John's volleyball team was unable to break through against No.12 Creighton on Friday at DJ Sokol Arena, falling in three sets.
With the loss, the Red Storm (17-11, 8-7 BIG EAST) drops to fifth in the conference standings. The Bluejays (23-3, 15-0) remain perfect in BIG EAST play, and atop the league standings.
Rachele Rastelli led the team with 12 kills, while hitting a career-high .611.
Wiktoria Kowalczyk tallied 26 helpers in the contest.
Bree Martin registered a team-high 14 digs.
Eleonora Tosi's six blocks was a team high.
In the first set, the Red Storm were never able to find its groove. St. John's led briefly to start the match, but Creighton took control after breaking a 2-2 tie and never looked back. The Jays used two separate 5-0 runs to cruise to its first set victory, 25-14.
The Johnnies fought hard in the second frame but ultimately fell, 25-20. The squads traded points early and tied for the last time at three apiece. St. John's never regained the lead in the stanza. Both teams only strung together three points once, creating a tight scoring set. Trailing 21-14, three consecutive Red Storm points showed a glimmer of hope, but CU called a timeout and closed out the Johnnies. Rastelli hit .857 in the frame, with a set-high six kills.
In the third set, Creighton used an 8-1 run to break out to a 17-9 lead. The Red Storm continued to fight using a 6-1 run, and a 5-0 run to tie the set at 20. The teams went point-for-point to be tied at 22.But, the Jays executed the next three points to win the frame, 25-22 and take the match.
The Red Storm will finish the weekend road trip with a matinee match on Sunday against Xavier at the Cintas Center.
