Pompey Releases Outdoor Track and Field Schedule

The Red Storm will compete in eight competitions this spring
QUEENS, N.Y.- Director of Track and Field Aliann Pompey has released the outdoor track & field slate for 2022.
The Red Storm are set to compete in eight competitions this season, including one meet at its home track, DaSilva Memorial Field, and another at nearby Icahn Stadium.
The Johnnies will kick off the outdoor season in Philadelphia on Saturday when they take part in the prestigious Penn Challenge. This will mark the first time St. John's has competed in the event since 2019, when it captured sixth place.
The next week, Coach Pompey's squad will make the trip to the Sunshine State to compete in the Hurricane Invitational in Miami on March 26. At this event in 2018, Leah Anderson logged then-career-best times in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.
On April 2, the Johnnies will return to the tri-state area and take part in the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton's Weaver Stadium. St. John's secured a second-place team finish when it last participated in the event in 2016.
After a trip to New Jersey, the Red Storm will split up and compete in the Hurricane Alumni Meet in Miami and the Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium on April 8 and 9. The Johnnies took home eight first-place finishes at last year's Met Championships, led by Anderson who posted a new personal best in the 100-meter dash.
The next week, St. John's will return to Princeton, N.J., to battle in the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 15 and 16. The Red Storm will make another journey to the City of Brotherly Love to take part in the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 28 through Saturday, April 30.
The Johnnies will open the month of May by hosting the Tom Farrell Classic at DaSilva Memorial Field on Saturday, May 7. In 2021, the Red Storm notched 16 wins at its home meet, including victories by Katherine Bruno (800m), Amanda Belgrave (Long Jump and Triple Jump) and Onassha Rogers (100m).
St. John's will travel to Storrs, Conn., to compete against the best in the conference at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 13-14. Last season, Anderson was named the league's Most Outstanding Outdoor Track Performer and High Point Performer. The senior out of Mount Vernon, N.Y., captured three event titles to help St. John's to a third-place finish.
The Red Storm will conclude the track and field season with the NCAA Regional Championships on Thursday, May 26 in Bloomington, Ind. Johnnies who qualify will advance to Eugene, Ore. to take part in the NCAA Championships, which start on June 8.
