TICKET PUNCHED: Jamora Alves Qualifies for NCAA Championships in Discus

The Red Storm will send a Johnnie to the NCAA Championships for the third-consecutive season
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second time in her Red Storm career, Jamora Alves qualified for the NCAA Track & Field Championships in discus on Saturday in the final day of the NCAA East Regional at UNF's Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
With Alves qualifying for the NCAA Track & Field Championships, the Johnnies have now sent a member of the track & field program to Eugene, Ore., for the third consecutive season under Director of Track & Field Aliann Pompey.
Alves continued her dominant junior season, grabbing the final qualifier into the NCAA Discus Championships with a 12th-place throw at the NCAA East Regional. The Grenada native threw in the final spot of the third heat and produced a 54.16-meter heave in her second attempt of the afternoon.
The junior will now make her second NCAA Championship appearance and first since the 2022-23 season when she also competed in the discus on the national stage.
In the 800-meter NCAA Quarterfinals, Nora Haugen posted a 16th-place finish to finish out her second-straight NCAA Quarterfinal appearance. The Norway native posted a finishing time of 2:03.98 for fifth place in her heat.
Chinenye Onuorah closed out her impressive outdoor campaign with a 17th-place result in the 400-Meter Dash NCAA Quarterfinals. The junior paced the event in 52.77 seconds, finishing sixth in her heat. The NCAA East Regional second-round appearance marked the first of her career.
Alves will return to the field in two weeks when she competes against the best in the nation at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. The meet will kick off on June 11 at historic Hayward Field.
