St. John’s Takes Down Villanova, 6-1

Red Storm wins sixth straight match at the USTA National Tennis Center
QUEENS N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team defeated Villanova, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Friday's victory extended Red Storm winning streak (11-5, 4-0) to six matches and sprung them to a 4-0 start in BIG EAST play.
After splitting the first two doubles contests, Camila Ordonez and Lalita Devarakonda earned the point in the rubber match with a narrow decision over Villanova's Caitlin Fisher and Olivia Kapp, 7-5.
In singles, the Johnnies grabbed a win on five of the six courts to put away the Wildcats.
Devarakonda logged a straight set decision 6-2, 6-4, against Emma Brogan. On the no. 3 court Jayden Nielsen breezed past Villanova's Fisher 6-4, 6-3.
Yesica de Lucas came out on top on the no. 4 court, winning 6-0, 6-3. Willa Bay Breunich grabbed her sixth straight win as she defeated the Wildcats Bella Steffen, 6-1, 7-5. To finish off singles play, Ordonez dominated the final duel, 6-2, 6-4, to remain undefeated in conference play.
On Sunday, a doubleheader awaits, as St. John's takes on Hofstra at 12 p.m. and Binghamton at 3 p.m. in Hempstead N.Y.
