Women’s Basketball Adds Reid for Upcoming Season

Mimi Reid joins the St. John’s squad after stint at Ole Miss
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced the addition of Ole Miss transfer Mimi Reid to the 2022-23 squad.
"We are very excited to welcome Mimi to our program and back home to New York," said Tartamella. "We all look forward to her bringing the toughness and competitiveness to this team that has made her a highly successful player in the SEC."
Reid comes to the Empire State as a graduate transfer after a solid career at Ole Miss, where the guard appeared in 118 games while making 100 starts. The Bronx native averaged 5.3 points, 4.1 assists, and 27.1 minutes during her time with the Rebels. She totaled over 100 assists in four-straight seasons at Ole Miss and
this past season, Reid made 29 starts and appeared in every game for the Rebels, including an NCAA Tournament game. She carried the team in assists in 15 games while also dishing out five or more assists in 13 contests. Reid paced the Rebels with 3.6 assists per outing, which ranked top-10 in the SEC.
As a redshirt junior, Reid played in 27 games while starting in 17 including five-straight starts during the team's WNIT run. She averaged a career-best 4.6 assists to lead the team and finish second in the conference in that category. The point guard dished out five or more assists in 12 games and logged a season-high 10 helpers against league foe LSU.
As a redshirt sophomore, the Bronx native played in 30 games and made 28 starts. Reid led the Rebels with 32.9 minutes and 4.1 assists per game, which also ranked seventh in the SEC. She averaged a career-best 6.9 points that season and notched her second career double-double when she scored 16 points and dished out 10 assists against the Crimson Tide of Alabama. Scoring in double figures eight times during her redshirt sophomore campaign, Reid tallied a career-high 21 points at Tennessee. She finished the year having led Ole Miss in assists in 20 games and in scoring three times.
In her first season in Oxford, Miss., Reid appeared in 29 games and tied for the team-high 26 starts. She earned the SEC Freshman of the Week distinction twice, leading all freshman in the conference in assists that season. In 2018-19, Reid led the Rebels in assists (4.3) and was second on the squad in minutes (29.8). She finished the season sixth in the league in assists and ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio. Reid's 40.2 field-goal percentage paced the Rebel squad as she also led the team in assists in 19 games and rebounds once. The point guard logged her first collegiate double-double against Louisiana when she scored 14 points and dished out 11 helpers. She crashed the boards against Western Michigan, pulling down a career-best 11 rebounds.
Before her time in the Magnolia State, Reid played her prep basketball at The Patrick School in New Jersey where she her team to the state finals against top-ranked Rutgers Prep. The four-star recruit averaged 10.4 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 3.7 assists per game as a senior. She logged 10 games in double figures as a senior, including a season-best 27 points against Mastery Charter North (PA). During her sophomore campaign, Reid averaged 13.8 points 4.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game and was named to the NY Daily News All-Brooklyn all-star team. A two-time all-state selection and all-metro selection, the four-star prospect held a No. 49 ranking from Prospects Nation and ranks as the No. 11 point guard in her class.
Reid's success translates from the court to the classroom, as she graduated from Ole Miss with her bachelor's degree in criminal justice in May 2021. She is on track to earn her master's in criminal justice this coming May.
