All proceeds from the luncheon go towards the Johnnies’ women’s basketball program
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's women's basketball program hosted an event at Rao's, one of the most exclusive restaurants in New York City, on Wednesday afternoon to help support the program.
The luncheon celebrated the proud history and bright future of St. John's women's basketball. Joining patrons at the prestigious event were current players Camree Clegg and Danielle Patterson as well as newly named Associate Head Coach Candice Walker and Head Coach Joe Tartamella. Proceeds from the sold-out event directly benefit St. John's student-athletes by providing resources for them to continue to excel both on the court and in the classroom. Overall, the event raised more than $66,000 in revenue.
Coach Tartamella is coming off his tenth season at the helm of the Red Storm women's basketball program. During the 2021-22 season, Tartamella earned his 177th career win, an 83-63 triumph over Xavier on Feb. 2, with the Johnnie program, marking the most wins by a head coach in St. John's women's basketball history. He currently boasts a program-best 182 career wins.
Tartamella has mentored veteran guard Kadaja Bailey, who earned recognition from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association for her stellar 2021-22 campaign where she averaged 14.2 points while shooting 47.4 percent from the field as a senior. The Long Beach, N.Y., native logged her 1,000th career point in the squad's series finale at Marquette on Feb. 27, making the guard the 28th player in program history to reach the milestone.
