St. John’s Inks Skye Owen for 2022-23 Season

Local guard joins Red Storm squad for upcoming season
QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Women's Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced the addition of versatile guard Skye Owen for the 2022-23 season.
" We are excited to officially welcome Skye Owen to St. John's University," said Tartamella. "A New York native, Skye brings confidence on both ends of the floor. Her ability to score all three levels, distribute and defend will be a great addition to our program. Most importantly, she truly loves to play and has a passion for competition and winning. We look forward to having her family and supporters in Carnesecca Arena."
This past season, Owen was named to the All-New York City First Team. During her senior campaign at St. Francis Prep in Queens, she averaged 22 points and six assists per game. A 2022 McDonald's All-American nominee, she earned a 90 rating from ESPNW and was tabbed a top-50 prospect, according to BlueStar. Owen was named the Most Valuable Player at Rose Classic and MLK Hoopers Showcase during this past season.
In 2020, the Staten Island product guided St. Francis Prep to a CHSAA City Championship. As just a sophomore, Owen averaged 16 points, seven assists, seven rebounds and four steals per contest.
Owen received invitations to prestigious showcases like the John Lucas Top-160 Camp and the John Wooten Top-150 Elite Camp. Off the court, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society and volunteers her time at a local soup kitchen.
