Three St. John’s Teams Garner BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards

Women’s Golf, Lacrosse and Men’s Soccer earn recognition from the conference
QUEENS, N.Y. – Three St. John's athletic squads have been recognized with the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award, it was announced on Tuesday morning by the league office.
St. John's women's golf, lacrosse and men's soccer teams were bestowed with the accolade, meaning that they carried a higher team GPA than all of their BIG EAST counterparts for their respective sports.
St. John's was one of only three BIG EAST institutions to take home at least three BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Awards. Creighton led the conference with four while Butler also tallied three.
The women's golf team's 3.88 GPA was the second highest of any BIG EAST squad to win the Team Academic Excellence Award, trailing only DePaul women's tennis, which posted a 3.95 cumulative mark.
The St. John's lacrosse team is no stranger to the BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award, earning the accolade for the eighth time.
The Red Storm men's soccer squad took home the conference's top academic honor in addition to having a standout season on the pitch. The Johnnies finished third in the conference and were one of five BIG EAST programs to receive a bid for the 48-team NCAA Tournament. The Red Storm advanced to the second round, defeating Princeton at home before falling to top-seeded Oregon State in Corvallis. It marked the 22nd time in the last 30 seasons that the Red Storm qualified for NCAA play.
