Men’s Golf Prepares for The Macdonald Cup

Johnnies join 12-team field for 54-hole event
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's golf team is back in action at The Macdonald Cup from Sept. 24-25 at The Course at Yale.
The Johnnie squad joins a field of 12 teams including Bucknell, Fairfield, Fordham, Hartford, Harvard, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn, Princeton, Richmond, and the host Bulldogs.
The 54-hole event will commence over two days on the par-70 6,795-yard course. Representing the Red Storm will be Jack Simon, Brendan Smith, Tyler Gerbavsits, Gage Wolfle, Peicheng Chen, and Ryan Rittberger.
In head coach Phil Wildermuth's debut as the team's leader, the Johnnies took home second place out of 15 teams at The Doc Gimmler, the program's annual home event. The St. John's squad finished just a stroke behind champion Harvard, shooting a 32-under par 808 at the three-round event at the Bethpage Red course.
Chen paced the Red Storm with a third-place finish. The Beijing native tallied 15 birdies and an eagle en route to an 11-under, 199 total at the event. Wolfle also finished in the top-10, going 9-under through 54 holes for a cumulative 201.
