St. John’s sophomore takes home conference honors after successful weekend.
NEW YORK – St. John's men's golfer Peicheng Chen earned his first BIG EAST Weekly Honors this season, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The sophomore took home his first win of the season as he recorded a 9-under par 201 during The MacDonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course. The Beijing native paced the field with 15 birdies over the course of 54 holes with 14 of them coming in the first two rounds.
As a team, St. John's took sixth place at the two-day tournament, shooting a combined 1,074. For the second time in as many events, Chen paced the Johnnie squad. He previously led the way at The Doc Gimmler, where he took third overall.
The honor marks Chen's second-ever BIG EAST accolade. Chen took home the weekly nod last season after placing second at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational.
