Contests against Seton Hall and Villanova will be elevated to regional sports network
QUEENS, N.Y. - Off to a strong start to the 2022-23 campaign, the St. John's women's basketball team will have a pair of upcoming home games elevated to air on MSG Sports Network (MSGSN), the school announced on Tuesday. SJU-TV, the video production arm of St. John's Athletics, will produce both contests for MSGSN.
BIG EAST contests against Seton Hall on Jan. 31 and Villanova on Feb. 15, will both be broadcast on the regional sports network. Both games will still be streamed on FloSports, as originally scheduled. FOX Sports commentators John Fanta and Kim Adams will have the call for each of these tilts at Carnesecca Arena.
In the 11th season under the direction of Head Coach Joe Tartamella, the Red Storm are off to a stellar season thus far, boasting a 16-3 overall record and a 7-3 mark midway through conference play. The squad has garnered national attention, having spent multiple weeks ranked in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' polls for the first time since 2016. The Johnnies have been receiving votes in one of the two polls since Dec. 5, 2022, following a win over then-No. 13/14 Creighton.
The first match-up to air on MSG Sports Network is a regional rivalry, as the Johnnies welcome Seton Hall across state lines and into Carnesecca Arena for a 7 p.m. start on Jan. 31. The Red Storm will seek its third victory in four tries at home against the Pirates, who took the first meeting this season in South Orange, N.J., on Jan. 4.
The following game to be broadcast on MSGSN features nationally-ranked Villanova on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats currently check in at No. 21 in the AP poll and feature the nation's leading scorer, Maddy Siegrist, who averages 28.5 points per game. In the first meeting between the two programs, St. John's held the lead for the majority of the contest, before a late Villanova rally pushed the Wildcats to a 64-61 win at Finneran Pavilion on Jan. 14.
Both games will be produced by SJU-TV, which delivers nearly 100 live events annually to the department's broadcast partners. Since 2013, SJU-TV has utilized its 20-foot mobile production unit to carry out high-quality content for its viewers.
MSG Networks and St. John's have enjoyed a proud partnership over the years, as the regional cable company has served as the home of "Red Storm Report", the magazine-style television program, that provides a behind-the-scenes look into the Johnnies' men's and women's basketball programs.
