Turner earns honor after holding Villanova to no shots on target
NEW YORK – St. John's women's soccer graduate student Katherine Turner was named BIG EAST Defensive Player, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Turner, the longtime center back for the Red Storm played an integral in a backline that allowed just two shots on target during a 1-1 week for the Johnnies.
The London, England native had a strong performance in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Villanova. Turner captain a defensive unit that didn't allow the Wildcats to generate a single shot on goal for the first time since Apr. 1, 2021.
Villanova had just two shots total courtesy of impressive play from Turner and her teammates.
The veteran has started every game this season and played all but 18 possible minutes this season. Turner has been pivotal in the Johnnies five shutouts this season.
Over her career in Queens, the two-time BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection has started in all 83 games over her career since the 2019 season.
Turner becomes the second player this season to be named the league's defensive player of the week joining Athina Sofroniou, who was named on Aug. 21.
Turner and the rest of the squad will look to build momentum on yesterday's win when they travel to Creighton for a Thursday night contest in Omaha at 7 p.m. ET.
