St. John’s to Host DePaul for Regular Season Finale

Red Storm clinched a playoff berth on Sunday
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's soccer team will host DePaul for its regular season finale on Thursday night at Belson Stadium.
The Johnnies and Blue Demons will faceoff at 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. Drew Casey will have the call from Queens.
On Sunday, St. John's clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament for the third-consecutive season after a dominant 3-0 win at Marquette.
Currently the Johnnies sit in fifth place in the league table and will compete in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal on Sunday, Oct. 29. If St. John's wins against DePaul and Providence loses or ties with Villanova on Thursday, the Red Storm will host a playoff game for the third-straight year. In all other scenarios, the Johnnies will hit the road for the quarterfinal round.
St. John's cruised in its victory at Marquette on Sunday, 3-0. Ava Collins and Jailene DeJesus tallied goals at Valley Fields and the third came on an own goal. Jessica Garziano and Nicole Gordon registered assists and the defense allowed just one shot on target in a strong effort for its sixth clean sheet of the season.
With her third multi-assist game of the season, Garziano matched the all-time single-season program record with 11 on the year. The attacking midfielder currently ranks sixth in the nation in total assists and leads the BIG EAST with 27 points. On Monday, the graduate student was named to the conference's weekly honor roll.
The win marked another milestone for Head Coach Ian Stone as he captured his 275th career victory and solidified a trip to his 18th BIG EAST Tournament. Stone is the only active coach in the BIG EAST Conference with 275 wins.
Collins has been in form as of late since returning from injury. In six league appearances, the New Zealand national has netted three goals and her 0.50 goals per game average in BIG EAST play ranks fourth in the conference.
Sunday's dazzling offensive display marked the sixth game this season at the Red Storm attack scored three goals or more. The Johnnies currently rank atop the BIG EAST in goals (32), assists (37) and points (101). The squad's assist mark ranks top-25 in the country and three players have recorded five or more helpers this season.
DePaul enters the match with an overall record of 6-6-4 and a 2-4-3 mark in league competition. The Blue Demons are unbeaten in their last three matches and are coming off a 1-0 victory over Villanova at home. Susie Soderstrom provided the game-winner in the 85th minute to earn a crucial three points.
DePaul currently ranks seventh in the league and needs a win on Thursday to earn a bid into the conference tournament.
Thursday marks the first meeting between the schools since Sept. 26, 2021, when the Red Storm collected a 1-0 victory at home courtesy of a goal from Collins. Former Johnnie goalkeeper Naya Lipkens tallied 12 saves in that contest.
