Jessica Garziano was tabbed to the honor roll
NEW YORK- St. John's women's soccer goalkeeper Maria O'Sullivan was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Standout midfielder Jessica Garziano was recognized by the league for the fourth time this season after being tabbed to the weekly honor roll.
O' Sullivan's recognition comes after logging her second-straight clean sheet in Thursday's 1-0 win over DePaul. On Sunday, she followed it up with a career-high nine save performance in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round at Providence.
In total, the graduate student registered a shutout, 12 saves and three goals allowed facing a combined 35 shots.
The Ballincollig, Ireland native surpassed her previous career-high she set while at Fordham, making eight stops at Dayton on Oct. 12, 2021. O' Sullivan made several acrobatic saves at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium en route to her new career-best.
In her lone season with the Red Storm, the Fordham transfer tallied 56 saves, seven shutouts, which ranks tied for seventh best in program history and a 10-5-3 record.
Garziano scored a pair of goals during a 1-1 week for the Johnnies. On Oct. 26 at Belson Stadium, the midfielder received a pass from Lauryn Tran curled around the DePaul defense and tucked home the game-winner in the 56th minute.
At Providence, Garziano sent home her third penalty kick of the season in the 89th minute. The goal marked the 10th of the season for Long Island native, who became the first player in program history to ever record double-digit goals and assists in a single-season.
The graduate student finished the year with 10 goals and 11 assists for 31 points, which leads the BIG EAST and ranks top-10 in the country. She finishes her career as the program's all-time career assist leader, tied the single-season assist record, ranks top-five all-time career points (77) and seventh in total goals (22)
O' Sullivan becomes the fourth Red Storm player to earn a major weekly award from the conference. Garziano was tabbed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18 and both Katherine Turner and Athina Sofroniou were named defensive player of the week this season.
