St. John’s Travels to Take on Creighton

Red Storm will face Bluejays on Thursday night in Omaha
QUEENS, N.Y.– The St. John's women's soccer team will look to build off Sunday's win when it heads to Omaha to face Creighton on Thursday night.
The league contest will kick-off at 7 p.m. ET from Morrison Stadium. The game will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Jon Schreiner and Josh Peterson on the call.
The Red Storm enter the match-up after a quality win on Sunday over Villanova, 2-0. The Johnnies backline was impressive, not allowing a single shot on target in the victory over the Wildcats. This marked the first time Villanova has been held without a shot on frame since April 1, 2021.
Following the stout defensive effort, Katherine Turner was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week the conference office announced on Monday.
Jailene DeJesus provided the go-ahead goal off a feed from Jessica Garziano in the 36th minute. In the second half, a Angelina Scoma long-ball to Lauryn Tran, who buried a strike that beat the keeper on the near side. Ava Collins was also credited with an assist on the second goal.
Garziano, the program's all-time assist leader, currently ranks sixth among active players in NCAA Division I in career helpers with 29.
Tran's goal against Villanova marked the fourth of the season. The junior currently ranks second on the team and tied for fourth in the BIG EAST with 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists).
Last year's meeting between the two sides on Oct. 6, 2022 ended in dramatic fashion when the Red Storm equalized with just nine seconds remaining to salvage a 1-1 draw. Collins threaded a cross to Brooke Boyd, who headed it home to tie the game in its final moments and earned a point for the Red Storm.
Overall, the Johnnies lead the all-time series 5-3-2 and have earned a result in each of the last five contests.
Creighton comes into Thursday's meeting with a 2-6-4 overall record and are still searching for its first BIG EAST win sitting at 0-4. In their last outing, the Bluejays fell at Providence, 3-1. Andrine Wistlie tallied her first goal of the season in the loss at Chapey Field.
Abigal Santana leads the squad with three goals and three assists on the year.
After Thursday's tilt, the Red Storm will return home for Senior Day on Sunday against Providence at 1 p.m.
