Drake becomes first St. John’s player to win BIG EAST Player of the Week since Feb. 1, 2021
NEW YORK– Unique Drake was named BIG EAST Player of the Week after pouring in 30 points at Yale on Thursday afternoon in a 75-56 victory over Yale.
The honor marks the first of Drake's five-year career and she becomes the first Red Storm player to garner the accolade since Feb. 1, 2021.
The redshirt senior became just the sixth player in program history to ever record two or more 30-point games in a single-season on Thursday. Drake matched the career-high she set on Nov. 19 after scoring 30 points against Manhattan on a 67-47 win.
The reigning BIG EAST Sixth-Woman of the Year joins Villanova's Lucy Olsen as the only other BIG EAST player to score 30 points in a game twice this season. Currently, there are only 17 players in NCAA Division I that have tallied multiple 30-point performances.
The Columbia, S.C., native went 10-for-19 from the floor on Thursday afternoon in New Haven, Conn., tying a career-high in made field goals. Drake did set a personal best at the charity stripe going 8-for-9 from throw line in a decisive win at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
The veteran hit two triples in yesterday's win and has made a 3-pointer in 12 out of 13 contests. Her second of the game against the Bulldogs set a new career mark with her 39th of the season, already passing her previous career best of 38 during last year's campaign just 13 games into the season. The guard's 39 made 3-pointers ranks eighth most in the country.
Drake boosted her season average up to 20.0 points per game, which ranks second in the BIG EAST and top-30 nationally.
Drake has already been tabbed to the league's weekly honor roll three times this season but earns her first-ever BIG EAST Player of the Week honor.
Drake and the Red Storm will be back in action after the holidays at No. 21 Creighton on Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. ET.
