Gavrilko Earns All-America Honor at NCAA Championships on Sunday

Red Storm finishes seventh for the second-straight season
DURHAM, N.C.-Â The women's portion of the St. John's fencing team closed out the 2022-23 campaign at the NCAA Championships in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Â

The Red Storm captured seventh place for the second consecutive season. Notre Dame won the national championship for the third consecutive season.Â

After the men wrapped up their part of the competition on Friday, the women hit the strips for two days of bouts on Saturday and Sunday.Â

Epee fencer Nicole Gavrilko won 12 bouts to finish 10th overall and capture a Third Team All-America distinction. Gavrilko's performance marks the second straight season a women's epee fencer finished 10th, joining Andrea Rizzi who garnered All-American recognition in 2022.Â

In her second NCAA Championships, Julia Cieslar posted 10 bout victories in pool play and finished 14th in Durham. In women's foil, Malwina Kolodziejczyk finished 23rd in her first appearance on the sport's biggest stage.Â
