The All-Horizon League selection led Robert Morris in scoring and rebounding
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's basketball team added another talented transfer in Phoenix Gedeon from Robert Morris, Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced on Wednesday.
A 2022-23 All-Horizon League Third Team selection, Gedeon led the Colonials in scoring and rebounding averaging 13.0 points and 8.3 boards per game during her sophomore season in 2022-23. The 6-foot dynamic forward ranked top-50 in the nation in double-doubles, logging 12 in 30 games.
"We are truly excited to add Phoenix to our program," Tartamella said. "She brings experience and depth to our roster. Her ability to effect the game on both ends of the floor fits our brand of basketball. She will be a great addition for us."
The sophomore emerged as a scoring threat this past season ranking seventh in the league in that category with 13.0 points per game. Gedeon shot finished in double-figures in 25 games and added 20-plus in four outings. The Montreal native poured in a career-high 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting at Purdue Fort-Wayne on Feb. 4.
Gedeon made her way to the charity stripe with frequency and cashed in on 71.9 percent (105-for-146) of her attempts, which checked in at sixth in the Horizon League. Her improvement at the line was significant with her free throw average rising nearly 13 percent from the season prior.
An impressive rebounder, Gedeon ranked third in the conference in rebounding grabbing 10 or more rebounds in 12 contests this season. In the conference opener at Wright State on Dec. 2, Gedeon collected a career-high 19 rebounds, the most by a Robert Morris player in over eight years.
During her freshman year in Moon Township, Pa., Gedeon played in 26 games in a reserve role and tallied 3.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
In high school, she was named Team MVP and Top Offensive Player over her career averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game at Life Center Academy in New Jersey.
Gedeon is the fourth transfer to pledge to the Red Storm this spring joining Pittsburgh's Amber Brown, Ber'Nyah Mayo of UMass and Tara Daye from DePaul.
