Western Illinois transfer to join the Johnnies this fall
QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's golf Head Coach Ambry Bishop-Santillo announced the signing of Western Illinois transfer Kelly Wu on Friday.
"I am really excited to have Kelly joining our St. John's women's golf family," Bishop said. "I think she will be a great addition to our program and make a big impact during her time here. Kelly had a successful freshman year and I look for her to continue that success at St. John's."
Wu arrives from Western Illinois, where she compiled a strong freshman campaign. The freshman appeared in nine of 10 possible tournaments and finished best on her squad five times. At the Summit League Championships, Wu cracked the top-10 and finished tied for ninth with a 6-over, 219.
At the Western Illinois Invite in early April, Wu had the best finish of her rookie campaign checking in at second overall with an 8-over, 228, leading the Leathernecks to a runner-up finish.
Prior to college, the New Zealand native attended the St. Kentigern College Golf Academy, where she was named captain in 2019. The following year, Wu helped guide the squad to a New Zealand Junior Team Championship.
Wu holds many individual accolades earning medalist honors at the U19 Lydia Ko Championship in 2021, finished fourth in Danny Lee Springfield Women's open and placed inside the top-10 at the Autex Mutai Open.
Wu is the second transfer to join the Red Storm this spring joining Xuan Khue Minh Doan from Wofford.
