St. John’s Sits in Third After Round One at the BIG EAST Championships

Johnnies are three back off the tournament lead at Callawassie Island Golf Club
OKATIE, S.C.– The St. John's women's golf team takes third place after the first round of the 2026 BIG EAST Championships on Saturday. The Red Storm is three strokes back of Xavier for the tournament lead and one shot behind second place Georgetown
The Johnnies third place finish after day one, marks their highest place in the standings after any round at the conference tournament since they finished third at the 2017 BIG EAST Championships, which was also held at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Okatie, S.C.
The Red Storm shot 16-over, 304, during the opening round of the BIG EAST Championships. All four Red Storm golfers that scored sit inside the top-20 on the leaderboard, including three in the top-seven. The Johnnies lead the tournament field with 16 birdies through the first 18 holes.
Kelly Wu led the Johnnies carding a 2-over, 74, during Saturday's first round. The senior sits in fourth place on the leaderboard, The Auckland, New Zealand native paced the field a 4.0 stroke average on the par 4's on Saturday.
Pihla Pennanen checked in right behind Wu, shooting a 3-over, 75, in the opening round. The Kerava, Finland native sits tied for fifth overall and carded a 1-under, 35, logging all three of her birdies on the back nine at Callawassie.
Lily Huynh was third Johnnie inside the top-10, tying for seventh place on the leaderboard after 18 holes. The sophomore recorded a 4-over, 76, flushing three birdies in the Palmetto State, which tied for the third-most among the field.
Freshman Kirsten Lee was the fourth Red Storm golfer and third underclassmen to place inside the top-20 on opening day of the conference tournament, tying for 19th. The Ontario, Canada product notched a 7-over, 79, after 18 holes. The rookie started strong posting an even par, 36, on the front nine.
St. John's will return to the course tomorrow morning for the second round. Streaming coverage will be available on GKLive TV and live scoring will be live on SCOREBOARD.
