St. John’s Opens BIG EAST Play Against UConn

Red Storm holds a 17-14-7 record against Huskies
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's soccer team will open BIG EAST play on Friday, heading to Storrs for a 7 p.m. match with UConn.
Friday's contest will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloFC, presented by Invesco QQQ, with Adam Giardino and John Tuite on the call. Live stats will also be available at RedStormSports.com
The Red Storm (4-1-1) is coming off a 7-1 triumph over Temple on Monday evening after a one-hour, 45-minute weather delay. Attacker Miguel Diaz led all players with four points, netting his first Division I goal and adding a pair of assists in the win. The Brooklyn native jumped into the national rankings with his helpers, tallying four on the season, good for eighth in the NCAA.
Macoumba Ba, Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau, Eric Danquah, Brady Geho, Jackson Gould and Max McNulty all found the back of the net against the Owls. The seven goals, by seven different goal scorers, were the most in a game since an 8-0 victory on Sept. 18, 1998, against Providence.
Fleuriau Chateau and McNulty pace the Johnnies with four goals apiece, sitting second in conference and 22nd in the nation. McNulty has also registered a point in five of the Red Storm's six games this season, racking up 11 points in total for the 11th-best mark in Division I. As a team, St. John's also stormed into the nation's top 10 with 20 assists (2nd), 48 points (4th), 14 goals (6th) and 8.00 points per game (8th).
The Johnnies will look to make it three straight wins in BIG EAST openers, having a 3-1 win over Georgetown last season and a 1-0 victory at Xavier during the fall 2021 campaign.
The Red Storm and Huskies will square off for the 39th time in program history with the Red Storm holding a 17-14-7 record. Both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in their last match on Oct. 29, 2022. Zenden Hart registered four saves in the clean sheet, seeing 10 total shots from the Huskies. St. John's has been steady in its last five meetings with UConn, holding a 3-0-2 mark and outscoring the Huskies, 7-2, over that stretch.
St. John's will make its way to Storrs for the first time since its 1-1 draw on Oct. 2, 2021. Former standout Lucas Bartlett tallied the Red Storm's lone goal in the 23rd minute, only to see UConn's Jayden Reid knot the game 1:39 later.

Lucas Almeida scored 3:02 into the game, followed by a 19th-minute strike from Scott Testori and Adil Iggoute's tally in the 72nd minute. Goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert made four saves in the contest to pick up his second clean sheet of the season.
