QUEENS, N.Y. – The BIG EAST Conference released the complete 2023-24 league schedule for the upcoming men's basketball season on Friday.
Six of the Red Storm's 10 home games in conference will be contested at "The World's Most Famous Arena," Madison Square Garden, the home of St. John's Basketball since 1931. UBS Arena will host two of the Johnnies' BIG EAST home games and the remaining two league home contests will take place at Carnesecca Arena, the on-campus home of St. John's.
Game times and television designations will be announced at a later date.
BIG EAST games will continue to be televised by FOX Sports, the league's television partner for the past 10 years. CBS Sports will present a select number of games across CBS, Paramount+ and CBS Sports Network. All conference contests, and non-conference home games, will be televised on a linear network, principally by FOX.
Following 10 non-conference games, six of which will be contested in The Five Boroughs, in the months of November and December, Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino will make his return to BIG EAST play on Dec. 20 when St. John's hosts Xavier in its conference opener at Carnesecca Arena.
Three days later, the Red Storm will visit defending national champion Connecticut on Dec. 23. Pitino and Huskies' head coach Dan Hurley will meet on the sidelines for the first time since last year's NCAA Tournament, as Pitino's Iona Gaels battled UConn in a second round matchup.
After a contest with Hofstra on Dec. 30 at UBS Arena, the Red Storm's final non-conference game, St. John's will ring in the New Year by hosting Butler on Jan. 2 inside Carnesecca Arena.
The Johnnies are scheduled to hit the road for the first time in 2024 on Jan. 6 when they look for their first victory at Villanova since 2018.
The Red Storm will make its BIG EAST Madison Square Garden debut on Jan. 10 against Providence. Last season, St. John's defeated the No. 20 Friars, 73-68, inside "The World's Most Famous Arena" on Feb. 11, 2023.
St. John's will begin a two-game BIG EAST road stretch on Jan. 13 when the Johnnies travel to Omaha for a meeting with Creighton. The Red Storm then returns to the East Coast for a Jan. 16 matchup with Seton Hall at Prudential Center.
St. John's will play its next two games in Midtown, starting with a rematch of last year's BIG EAST Tournament contest against defending conference champion Marquette on Jan. 20. The Johnnies nearly knocked off the Golden Eagles in the tournament's quarterfinals, pushing top-seeded Marquette into overtime before falling, 72-70. Four days later, St. John's will host Villanova at MSG on Jan. 24 and looks for its first win over the Wildcats at The Mecca since 2019.
Following a quick trip to Cincinnati for a matchup with Xavier on Jan. 31, the Red Storm will return to New York for another two-game homestand. On Feb. 3, the Johnnies will host UConn, Pitino's most frequently played opponent during his 35-year coaching career, at Madison Square Garden.
UBS Arena will play host to its first BIG EAST matchup on Feb. 6 when DePaul comes to town. St. John's swept the Blue Demons last season, emerging victorious with an 86-67 victory at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 7, 2022, followed by a 92-83 double overtime-thriller on Valentine's Day.
St. John's will play on the road in five of its final eight games of the season, starting in Milwaukee against Marquette on Feb. 10. Three days later, St. John's will head to Providence for a Feb. 13 matchup inside Amica Mutual Pavilion.
The Red Storm will make its way back to Belmont Park, N.Y., for a Feb. 18 showdown against Seton Hall at UBS Arena before heading to the nation's capital for a midweek matchup against Georgetown at Capital One Arena on Feb. 21.
St. John's returns home to take on Creighton at "The World's Most Famous Arena" on Feb. 25.
The Red Storm will begin its third two-game BIG EAST road stretch on Feb. 28 at Butler before returning to the Midwest for a March 5 showdown with DePaul at Wintrust Arena.
The Johnnies will close out the regular season at Madison Square Garden, hosting Georgetown in Midtown on March 9. St. John's swept both games against the Hoyas last season, including a 75-73 victory on a last second 3-pointer at The Garden.
St. John's will look to make a run in the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament, held at "The World's Most Famous Arena," which runs from March 13-16. FOX and FS1 will continue to televise the event. The BIG EAST Tournament has been held at MSG since 1983. It is college basketball's longest running conference postseason tournament held at the same venue.
